What are Dr. Janardhana T's qualifications and experience?
Dr. Janardhana T is a highly experienced General Surgeon and Minimal Access Surgeon with over 14 years of expertise in minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. He completed his MBBS and MS in General Surgery, followed by a Fellowship of the National Board (FNB) in Minimal Access Surgery, providing him with advanced training in laparoscopic and gastrointestinal surgical techniques. He currently practices as a Consultant – General Surgery at Manipal Hospitals, Kanakapura Road, Bengaluru, with special interests in laparoscopic appendectomy, hernia repair, gallbladder surgery, small bowel surgery, and comprehensive general surgical care.
What is minimally invasive or laparoscopic surgery?
Minimally invasive surgery, also known as laparoscopic or keyhole surgery, involves performing surgical procedures through small incisions using specialized instruments and a high-definition camera. Compared with traditional open surgery, laparoscopic procedures generally result in less pain, smaller scars, shorter hospital stays, quicker recovery, and reduced risk of infection. Dr. Janardhana utilizes advanced laparoscopic techniques whenever appropriate to provide patients with safer procedures and enhanced postoperative comfort.
What conditions can be treated with laparoscopic surgery?
Laparoscopic surgery can be used to treat a wide range of surgical conditions including appendicitis, gallstones, hernias, bowel disorders, abdominal conditions, and selected emergency surgical problems. Procedures such as laparoscopic appendectomy, gallbladder removal, hernia repair, and small bowel surgery are commonly performed using minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Janardhana carefully evaluates each patient to determine the most suitable and safest surgical approach.
When should I consult a general surgeon?
You should consider consulting a general surgeon if you experience persistent abdominal pain, swelling or lumps, recurrent vomiting, hernias, gallstone symptoms, appendicitis symptoms, anorectal problems such as piles or fissures, non-healing wounds, or conditions requiring surgical evaluation. Early consultation often allows timely diagnosis and treatment, helping prevent complications and improving long-term outcomes. Dr. Janardhana offers comprehensive evaluation and personalized treatment plans for a wide range of surgical conditions.
What are the benefits of laparoscopic hernia repair?
Laparoscopic hernia repair offers several advantages over conventional open surgery, including smaller incisions, less postoperative pain, quicker recovery, and reduced wound complications. Many patients return to work and routine activities sooner following minimally invasive hernia surgery. Advanced laparoscopic techniques are especially useful in recurrent, bilateral, and complex hernias. Dr. Janardhana specializes in advanced laparoscopic hernia repairs designed to provide durable and long-lasting results.
Is laparoscopic gallbladder surgery safe?
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is considered the gold standard treatment for gallstones and gallbladder disease. The procedure is highly safe and effective when performed by an experienced surgeon. Most patients experience less pain, shorter hospitalization, and faster recovery compared with open surgery. Dr. Janardhana performs comprehensive preoperative assessment and follows established surgical protocols to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes throughout the treatment journey.
How long does recovery take after laparoscopic surgery?
Recovery following laparoscopic surgery is generally faster than traditional open surgery. Many patients begin walking within hours after surgery and return home within one or two days, depending on the procedure performed. Light daily activities can often be resumed within a week, while strenuous activities may require additional time. Dr. Janardhana provides individualized recovery instructions to support safe healing and a smooth return to normal life.
Can piles, fissures, and fistulas be treated without major surgery?
Yes, many anorectal conditions can now be treated using minimally invasive and advanced surgical techniques that minimize pain and recovery time. Treatment depends on the severity and type of condition. Early diagnosis often allows more effective management with fewer complications. Dr. Janardhana offers modern treatment options for piles, fissures, fistulas, and other anorectal disorders with a focus on patient comfort and long-term symptom relief.
What is pilonidal sinus disease and when is surgery required?
Pilonidal sinus disease is a condition affecting the area near the tailbone, often causing pain, swelling, discharge, and recurrent infections. Surgery may be recommended for recurrent disease, abscess formation, or chronic symptoms. Advanced flap procedures help reduce recurrence and promote faster healing. Dr. Janardhana offers modern surgical management for pilonidal sinus disease with emphasis on durable outcomes and patient comfort.
Why is early treatment important for diabetic foot wounds?
Diabetic foot ulcers and traumatic wounds require prompt medical attention because delayed treatment can increase the risk of infection, tissue damage, and amputation. Early intervention, proper wound care, infection control, and blood sugar management significantly improve healing outcomes. Dr. Janardhana provides comprehensive diabetic foot and wound care services aimed at promoting healing, preserving limb function, and reducing complications.
Does Dr. Janardhana perform emergency surgical procedures?
Yes, Dr. Janardhana manages both emergency and elective surgical procedures. Emergency conditions such as acute appendicitis, intestinal obstruction, complicated hernias, abdominal infections, and traumatic injuries often require urgent evaluation and treatment. His extensive experience in general surgery and minimally invasive procedures allows him to provide timely intervention while prioritizing patient safety and clinical outcomes.
